Madrid has four prominent art museums:
• The Prado is one of the world's great art museums. It is the best place to survey the Old Masters of Spanish art, and it has superlative works by Old Masters of other nations
It is not possible to create an original report on the Prado because the museum does not allow photography. This course is based on a personal point of view, and features photos I have taken myself, with supplements by Dan L. Smith, and as few internet grabs as possible to tell my story.
• The Royal Academy of Fine Arts is Spain's oldest museum, established by royal decree in 1744, as Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. It is also the headquarters of the Madrid Academy of Art.
• The Thyssen-Bornemizsa is a major private collection spanning the history of art.
